Out of all the villains in the Sonic franchise, Shadow is my absolute favorite. Sure, Dr. Eggman is basically required in every Sonic game, but I prefer Shadow.

@Whalefox Johnson Well, I’ve known Shadow as a villain since I watched Sonic X. Which was about a decade ago. And I haven’t played Shadow the Hedgehog due to the fact that I was evicted and had to surrender most of my belongings. So in my opinion, Shadow is a villain.
@Jillian Robinson Shadow is a villain in Sonic Adventure 2, Shadow the Hedgehog(if you choose), and the anime. But he redeems himself at the end of Sonic Adventure 2 and you can see him being good in Heroes and 06. Then he becomes an anti hero in spinoffs and Forces

@Jillian Robinson Fair enough. Still, 06 has the best Hero Shadow to be written, and comes off as an evolution of his character, before he got reset cause Sega ran in fear of 06.
Jim Carrey as dr. Robotnik/Eggman is by far my favorite part of the Sonic movies

I really think Infinite deserved to be on the list. His unique appearance, abilities and impact he’s made in Forces help him made quite the impact

The list is good. If Knuckles is being included as an antagonist and at 10, Infinite isn’t really getting on.
Metal Sonic really deserves the praise. Built only to imitate Sonic and even obsesses himself to be better than him, to the point of transforming its own body and become a monster. Not only that, he has one of the most intense final boss themes ever.

knuckles is a protagonist that was misguided by Eggman, so I wouldn’t call him a villain. He’s more of a character that is tricked by the antagonist. Shadow is an anti-hero. Not an antagonist.

Very awesome list! I was one of the users on the site who suggested it and wanted it to happen. But I have to disagree with E-102 Gamma and Gerald Robotnik on the entry because Gamma wasn’t really a villain to begin with. It’s just that he was created by Eggman to serve for him. When he met up with Amy inside the Egg Carrier prison, Amy was the one who changed Gamma’s direction as a character which was really one of the most touching moments in the Sonic series IMO. As for Gerald however, he too wasn’t a villain because he was driven by insanity over the death of his granddaughter Maria at the hands of GUN soldiers. Gerald’s purpose was take out the GUN forces who murdered Maria which resulted into him creating Shadow and Black Doom was with him when that happened.
Gerald still aimed to blow up the planet from beyond the grave. It’s how the events of SA2 even happened.
You guys forgot about Mephiles. As bad as Sonic 06 was, Mephiles was one of the only redeeming qualities of the game besides the soundtrack. Plus, he’s the only villain in the entire sonic universe who has ever actually killed Sonic.

lots of sonic talk regarding the movie and the franchise frequently sparks among my friends. while we know most of sonic’s games are bottom of the barrel, i’m always of the opinion that the character designs are a strong part of the series. the more obscure characters like blaze the cat, jet the hawk, and some other definitely need more attention, and i’d be surprised for them to get mentioned in frontiers at the bare minimum
I think Mephilis should have been included, I mean he is the one villain who actually killed Sonic. Plus he wanted to join with Iblis to become Solaris and destroy every timeline effectively wiping out existence itself, making him arguably the most dangerous and evil villain in the entire franchise.
But then that would mean that you’re saying something besides the OST in Sonic 06 was good. Do you really want that?

In fact, even Charriii5 pointed out the various opportunities Mephiles had to merge with Iblis…and he does a bunch of crap just to kill Sonic so Elise could cry and release Iblis.
@tcrpgfan I’m not saying that game wasn’t an awful pile of excrement, that doesn’t mean I didn’t certain story aspects. I liked Mephilis as a villain. He was one of the very few things about the game I actually liked in terms of story

@The Minecraft 🌞 I feel you. I started collecting in 2008. That collection will never be completed now… sigh… There are sites you can read the whole thing for free. Archie has an amazing story for Sonic. It’s not all good and the quality is not consistent, but when it hits, it hits hard, and it will use the scattered lore it has build up to create amazing stories other Sonic media can not replicate.
Worlds Collide, currently the best Sonic & Megaman crossover… you can’t understand the ending, what has been lost, without reading what came before.
@The Minecraft 🌞 Knuckles was also an antagonist in STC and Archie. Archie Knuckles’s rivalry in Archie is better than Sonic X, since Archie only elevated Knuckles’ character (which has mix results) while Sonic X made Knuckles the resident dumbass cause of the rivalry. (Love all continuities btw)
