Agree Sony appears to be the ONLY other publisher besides Nintendo who seems to understand what the top level personnel need to be and do to make a SUSTAINABLE game company. Perhaps the old CEO leaving and Herman Hulst’s influence growing are factors. I’m old enuf to remember when Microsoft wanted to buy Nintendo US for some sky-high price (both were based in Seattle). Reportedly Nintendo literally laughed. 10-15 years later, I understand much better why they laughed. UbiSoft and Warner Games are good examples of how NOT to run a games company. Good podcast topic if useful to you 🙂

It will probably exist for the big AAA games, but especially with the new generation only used to Digital it will only get less popular.

@@BoBurnham69 ssds and hardrives get damaged too. If a user takes care of their disc than there should be no damage. It’s just pure laziness. No need to whine because somebody likes something you don’t.

The Order 1886 is still a PlayStation IP so they could rehire tye devs and make the sequel!!

The leak suggested that the game is in 2026, we might see an update at the September event Sony is probably doing. They totally could’ve used the movie hype to promote the game

If digital video game sales are going to be pushed on us then they need to add a way to refund or just sell back games cause sometimes we buy games with no replay value that just sit on the console 😭

I agree. Also this is basically standard operation for all other products we can buy, we are allowed to resell them in our countries. Only digital we are not.
Though if we can resell games to others this will completely destroy the digital market and ruin gaming completely.
Best thing to do is to wishlist games you want to play, only buy games brand new that you know you would play again and the ones you only play once buy on sale years later. Just see it as renting the game.

Most of those scalpers have already sold off their consoles, but at a loss since people preferred to wait for stock.
It would be nice if they didn’t announce new games until about 6 months from release date. Why tell us about games that we all know will be delayed for years?
A lot of games do that now, but sometimes you need to show people why they should buy a new console & one way to do that is to show games early. Also some devs want feedback early or hire developers so then announcing early also helps.
I disagree, knowing that something is on the way is a good thing. Take the Insomniac hack, it was mostly bad, but finding out that they are planning a Venom game and an X-Men game is great news. It isn’t worth all the trouble that Insomniac went through, but it was still nice to find out that those games are planned.
6 months is a bit too late. I’d say within 12 months is reasonable.
Pretty much since the early gen consoles games have been announced as a proof of concept to build up hype even years before release.
Its only relatively recently when sony dropped out of E3 to do their own online marketing and nintendo followed suit where games have started to be announced then released in a short period and most developers have followed suit.
Online marketing is the new way to market games as most have access to the internet and use it to keep up with gaming news, so now there is little reason to build up hype over years as people can get advertising straight to them via the internet.
Only devs like rockstar are still doing the classic slow build hype announcements, because it has always worked for them.
Physical games never go on sale that’s why.
I’ve got no clue why they haven’t realized, or change their ways.
I try to only buy physical cause then you own the game forever.

Huh, physical games go on sale all the time. Perhaps you are ordering from the wrong store. You’re also more likely to get a newer game for dirt cheap at a Walmart or Target, than on the Xbox or PS game stores. The reason physical is dying is because getting the game digitally is more convenient, and some games don’t even have a physical copy, which costs more to make.
