During Emily’s desperate escape run from the Wendigo in “Until Dawn”
She gets an option to go left or right .. choosing one causes a Wendigo
to appear from nowhere and scream in your face.
I paused the game, put down my controller, curled up my toes and
“lay unconscious on the floor” XD
There are some other good ones in that game as well. This one
really got to me 🙂
Just stop
The licker bursting through the one-way mirror in Resident Evil 2 got me every single time.
Every damn time. Played the game many times back then. I know it will come out once I pick up the first aid but still gets me.
There was a demo for resident evil 2, and where you first encounter the licker in the police station it simply just dropped off the ceiling without playing the FMV sequence beforehand like in the finished product. 1000x scarier, I promise you. Your just walking down the hall and the next thing a licker just falls in front of you. Friggin terrifying
The fucking dogs bursting throug the windows in Resi 1 …
@erakfishfishfish definitely what caused the false sense of security. The remainder of the game you couldn’t trust anything. The B scenario was just a constant false sense of security. Like when Mr. X bursts through the press conference. Great game and I wish the remake could’ve expanded on the original
The brilliant thing about this moment is how the game catches you off guard: just a minute earlier you were on the other side of the glass and the room was empty. The devs deliberately put you in a false sense of ease.
Honestly, Chris Walker at the beginning of Outlast should be here.
Yes, you know you’ll get a few jumpscares at first, to set the mood for the game. But even after setting it all up? To just have him suddenly pull you back, halfway through an animated motion……I almost crapped myself.
I always thought Manbat in Arkham Knight was a hell of a jumpscare. Did not see it coming at all. The “Sneaky boy of silence” saw him coming a mile away. Ii thought, “this looks like the kind of place that’ll have a jump scare, probably right after a forced interaction.” Still scary but not that bad.
oh, how about that scene in Arkham Asylum, in the Morgue?
where you open a body bag, and Scarecrow jumps out and drags you into that stealth minigame for the first time?
I, too, thought of Man Bat from “Arkham Knight” when I saw this video. I’m surprised it didn’t show up here. Weird thing: my very first time through the game, I somehow avoided this jump-scare. I didn’t see Man Bat until way later in the game when I saw hum just flying around. My next time through, he jump-scared me, and caught me completely off-guard! LOL
Some of the best jump scares I encountered in a video game were in Dead Space and Dead Space 2 when using headphones. They are fantastic games and I recommend that you check them out if you haven’t already done so.
@JediBlades42 ahaha great stuff
@Don Backup Videos the alarm bell towards the end of that level really made me jump. It was about 3am when I played through my first time and both my roommates heard me scream in surprise
Do u remember that nursery scene god that shiz was scary
@mark ellis It’s a fantastic video game series. I very much feel that it picked up the survival horror mantle particularly at a time where the genre felt almost non-existent.
The fucking TV scare at the beginning of 2 always gets me 😢
There’s one during a side quest in Ghostwire Tokyo that got me. You’re busy helping a young ghost figure out why their music isn’t as good as it used to be, and learn that one of the paintings is cursed. You have to get close to it to inspect, and when you do, it jumps out, and I literally jumped out of my chair.
The doctor who pops up out of nowhere behind you in Bioshock, after you investigate a particular corner, will always be the one I remember… Threw my PS3 controller right at the TV.
Bro fk that crap. Very unexpected.
Lol I just commented that
I’m so glad to see the Condemned games starting to get a little attention. Love the games and always felt they were underrated.
The Freezing Chambers in Dead Space 2. I remember walking through that part and screaming so loud the moment the first Necromorph burst out of a chamber. Needless to say I became way more warry when I continued the rest of the walk. Also a lot of hallucinations catch you off guard in that game.
Batman Arkham knight had one of the most unnecessary jump scares imaginable
The Alma Ladder scene from F.E.A.R always sticks with me. Damn near made me fall off my chair
I was just going to mention this one. Still remember this one vividly even 15 years later.
Not gonna lie that krypt demon on mk definitely had me shook a few times 😭😂
I normally don’t get really scared while playing games or watching videos… at least not to the extent that I throw something in the air because of the scare. But in the original Dino Crisis I had the one and only that really got me, controller went flying through the room when a T-Rex head came through a window.
I always liked the spooky hotel level on Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. You would investigate what turned out to be a dead end hallway and when you turned around you would see, for a brief second, a man standing at the entry to the hall holding an axe. After a second he disappears but this scare has stayed with me for over a decade. One of the best.
When I was young I was playing the hotel level at, like, 3AM with headphones on and the jump scare that got me was in the elevator shaft. The first was the audio of “Be Careful” that plays (Again. Headphones) and then the loud crash of the elevator screeching down to crush you. VTMB was a master class in how to set a mood.
@jrupert1 every single time
Well you mentioned it, now everyone who sees it must reinstall it.
Let’s fucking goo I love this game and that part and the mansion in the hills with those little 2 armed creations busting through the doors scared me but not nearly as much as the Ocean House hotel
Well I like the jump scare in Batman Arkham knight. The manbat on the building. When I first saw that I jumped out of bed🤭
That one gets me every time
Every. Damn. Time.
Yup… That one got me, and made me super nervous traversing through the city for the rest of the time playing ha ha
The first encounter with the bloody bathtub in Eternal Darkness forced me to put my Wavebird down for a while.
The jump scare from P.T must be one of the most frightening scares of all time. I’ve never been closer of having a heart attack.
shame that konami canned the game
I’m glad you included Bioshock, but I would have said in the first game in the dentist office when you are in the fog and turn around and the one guy is always right behind you
Shooting the fish in resident evil 4 gave me a fright lol
Surprised to see Silent Hill 3 left out. There are a couple in there that hit hard.
The mannequin room really stands out
